Our time in Mt. Shasta

Hello, this is Dhruv Sagar with my first post in the new year, 2012!!

On the Presidents day long weekend, we decided to spend our time in Mt. Shasta, a beautiful place in the rural countryside. It's about 4.5-5 hours of driving, so we left on Saturday after enjoying part of the weekend. The drive was ok... reading and watching and sightseeing from the window. Finally, we saw the hotel. As we got warmed up, we saw the swimming pool, so we ran to our room and got our stuff ready for ending the day in the pool. After the pool adventure, we thought of the great day ahead of us, and slept.

In the morning, we had to get ready quick for our day. We went down to the breakfast room and feasted on the continental breakfast until about 8:30 where we left for  . . . the Mt. Shasta Ski Resort! The weather was great, sunny and cold, perfect for skiing. My mom and Shuban left right away for Shuban's all day class, while me and my dad put on our ski gear. As we clomped our way up to the ski resort, we looked at the ski map:

We stayed more on the left side where the green was lined. If you see closer to the purple thick line which represents the ski lift there are some blue level slopes called Snowshoe and Challenge which is medium which I went on. We had lots of fun that day, going on the slopes and enjoying the thrill of the sport of skiing. After lunch, we did skiing until four, where it was starting to get a little chilly. We packed up and drove back to the hotel, excitedly talking about our day. We arrived at the hotel and got cozy in our room and slept.

The next day, Monday, we did the same routine and after breakfast we left for the Shasta Caverns.
These rooms were filled with many stalactites and stalagmites and  beautiful patterns of rock. We climbed about 200 stairs, and went down about 250 stairs in the process but we loved it. There was excellent views and scenery as well.

After this we went to the Shasta dam and took some pictures of the great wall enclosing about 4.5 million acres of water.
After taking a couple of pics, we geared up the car for our long drive back home. Now he we are thinking about our trip and the great times we have spent together as a family.

Thank you for reading my blog and good bye for now!!

My summer cruise

Wow, when my parent’s told me they were planning to go on cruise for summer break, I was shocked! I had never been on a cruise before, so I wondered what it would be like! Then my mom told me all the details. We would be going on The Royal Caribbean Cruise fleet! Did you know that this cruise liner owns the biggest ship in the world, Oasis of the seas! Also, you should know that Royal Caribbean names their ships by putting a cool word and (of the seas) after it! We would be leaving from Seattle and going to Alaska, where we would be stopping at Juneau, Skagway, and Victoria B.C.. It would be a fun-filled week in the ocean, I couldn’t wait to get started.
When the day came to leave, we made sure we had everything we needed for the cruise. When I locked the door, I thought how a week later we would be coming back home with all those exciting memories. So we drove to the Oakland airport left for Seattle. When we got to Seattle, we were excited to see the new places! I went in a gift shop to look for souvenirs but my dad warned us we didn’t have much time. So when we went to the front desk, we found out that there was actually a cruise desk since so many cruises leave from here.  The package deal costed $50 but they would give you a tour of the city while the boat was getting ready and they would drop off your luggage at the boat so you don’t need to worry about it. The tour was amazing! I found out that 2nd ugliest building in the world is in Seattle (it’s shaped like a huge smashed guitar). Also, the Space needle isn’t as tall as I pictured it but still pretty tall. We even saw the Starbucks headquarters! I wish we could have stopped by and grabbed a creamy Hot Chocolate from the makers of it all. Last but not least, we saw the Seattle Seahawks (football) stadium. All of the football fans in our bus cheered. Then, we reached the cruise. When we got inside the dock building, there was huge line for the cruise check-in. We were waiting for about 1 hour in that line and it wasn’t fun watching those huge cruise ships stuffed with sweets waiting for us. Finally, when we were done with the line, we took a couple of pictures and stepped onto the cruise boat! We did it!! We were on a cruise for the first time in our lives!!!!
So, while we were waiting for the luggage, we explored the cruise and found out that:
·       Tween Deck-For Crew Use only.
·       Deck 0-For Crew Use only.
·       Deck 1-Cabins
·       Deck 2-Cabins
·       Deck 3-Cabins
·       Deck 4- Edelwiess dining hall and Cruise lobby and the Broadway Melodies Theater and cabins!
·       Deck 5- Cabins and Edelwiess dining hall and Cruise lobby and the Broadway Melodies Theater. Many shops along the entrance to the Theater. Also, front desk and picture gallery is there also. Deck 5 is the main deck. It includes a Ben and Jerrys Ice Cream shop.
·       Deck 6- Cabins and many louges and a bar.
·       Deck 7- Library and card room with cabins.
·       Deck 8- Crown and Anchor Study and cabins.
·       Deck 9- Windjammer Café and Solarium (indoor pool and café). Also has a spa and outdoor pool. Deck 9 is the first outside deck.
·       Deck 10- Adventure Ocean kids club and Teenager arcade and movie area. Also the walk-a-mile lap area. Also includes indoor gym and Rock-Climbing wall.
·       Deck 11- Includes the Viking Crown lounge and the Captains quarters.
Did you know that there are 8 guest elevators that travel to decks 1-9, 4 elevators that travel to decks 1-10, and only two elevators that go to the Viking Crown Lounge.
We were pretty hungry so, I wasn’t very happy when I heard the captain call us all out for the emergency testing. Basically, where we stand for 15 minutes with life-jackets at the desired station while the crew makes sure the ship is ready to leave dock. After that, we ran to the Windjammer Café and ate quickly. Then we got the cruise compass of Day 1, which is a very helpful piece of paper which tells you all the statistics of that day (temperature, ship speed, etc.). It also tells all the events going to happen that day on the ship, what time, and where. We played a game of royal bingo and rested in our room for a while. Then, we found out that there is a daily show that happens at night. It is a very good show, with famous dancers and singers and happens every night. The problem is, though, that there are too many people on the boat! So, the show for us started at 7:30 and we ate dinner at 9:00, while others eat dinner at 7:30 and watch at 9:00! So after all that, we sat down and thought about the first day on a cruise. It had a great feeling to it. The whole atmosphere was very royal, and everybody pretty much treated you as royalty. So we slept with happy thoughts!

Day 2 and Day 3 were pretty much the same, we had breakfast at the windjammer café in the morning, and then walked about 1-2 miles. I bought a Royal Caribbean Walk-a-mile shirt to support the Make-a-wish foundation. After that, we start our daily adventures, my brother Shuban has a lot of fun in Adventure Ocean because it’s like preschool! They play fun games all day while we get to have our fun and not worry about him. Meanwhile, I spent some of my time at WII tournaments. They’re really small so don’t think it’s some kind of huge tournament or something. I did win 2 gold medals, and 1 bronze medal. The rules are pretty simple, in every tournament the man selects some challenge from WII sports or WII sports Resort and everybody plays it once. That is one round, so they do that two more times and add up everybody’s score and the people with the three highest scores get gold, silver, and bronze. There were 5 tournaments and I couldn’t go to two so I won in every single tournament I went in! It was actually pretty easy.

Day 4 we reached Skagway and on that day we planned to do a train ride! What is cool is that you can pay for all of your excursions, or trips, beforehand on the cruise and they arrange everything so on the day you reach there they many buses that will take you to the thing you chose. Since we chose a train ride, instead of a bus, the train was actually there because there were train tracks built all along the cruise dock! So we learned many things from our train-ride like there used to be a very old town a very long time ago and there was a villain in that town so the Sheriff and the villain had a face-off, the villain died instantly but the Sheriff died later off. So we saw the grave of the Sheriff covered in flowers and the grave of the villain next to the Sheriff with a stone wall surrounding the grave like he is in jail in the afterlife!! We passed through two tunnels and actually passed into Canada for 5 minutes! For 5 minutes we were Canadians!
On day 5, we reached Juneau, the capital of Alaska. We chose to see a glacier and go whale watching. So we got on a bus and that took us to a glacier called Mendenhall glacier. There was a lake in between us and the glacier so we couldn’t see it that well but we had fun hiking to it and climbing rocks. After that we went to the bus and it took us the docks but before that our bus driver was driving past a hill and she said,” You will be so amazed at what you will see next!” The hill passed and we saw a Wal-Mart! Also, we drove past a Burger King and she told us that the Burger King was the first fast-food store here so on the grand-opening day, there was a huge line and they ran out of supplies that they thought would last for a week so they had to call in an emergency chopper filled with supplies. The same thing happened the next day! At the whale-watching boat, they were serving free Hot-chocolate! Yay! So, when we got out on the water, the captain gave us each binoculars and we looked for whales. We actually spotted quite a lot. There was one pair of whales that was really great to look at but the rule of conservation and animal rights say that you cannot be near the same group of whales for 30 minutes so we moved away. The funny thing is, when we got back on the boat, it took us around the back of the glacier and we got much better pictures than before and it was much better!

On day 6, we went to Victoria, British Columbia and instead of excursions we just took a tour of the city. We saw many shops and many places. We ate Italian ice-cream and then started shopping there. I got a keychain saying I love Canada and then we raced back to the ship. Even though, we didn’t do much, we still had a lot of fun looking at the beautiful city.

On day 7, finally the end came near. Even though we had a lot of fun with games and events on the ship, everybody on the cruise knew that the paradise was going to end soon. To get us home in one day, the captain had ordered the ship to go very fast so it was great to see the ocean. Now, as it turned night, the captain stopped the exhausted ship and pulled into Seattle. After a good’s night rest, everybody was ready so after an hour of getting ready to leave we finally got off the boat and thought we have now completed a cruise. All I can say is it’s an experience everybody  should have because it was a great experience! To this day, I am glad that I chose to go on an exciting cruise!

India's 64th Independence Day

Hello! As all of you know, today is India's 64 independence Day!!
64 grand years of independence, but it took much more than that to gain that independence! Many people gave their lives to gain that freedom. Famous freedom fighters such as Mahatma Ghandi gave their lives to this cause and now I am telling you to enjoy this day of freedom. Remember the pain and suffering of the lives lost and the goal of freedom of India's citizens.
LONG LIVE INDIA!

Super Mario Galaxy!

By now Super Smash Bros. Brawl (see below posts) is a good game, but old. Even though the game I'm going to be talking about is also old, it is a great single player game!

So for all you Mario fans, get ready to see the next dimension Mario game, Super Mario Galaxy!

So, in this game, it starts out in the regular Mario World and Peach calls Mario over to view the Star Festival, which is every 100 years stars and comets rain down on their city. Princess Peach also wanted to give Mario a luma, which is a star and they are the regular people of the universe in this game. But, oh no, Bowser comes in with his airships and kidnaps Peach!! Mario gets blasted off into space and meets Rosalina who introduces him to the Observatory. Bowser stole all the grand stars and stars that are used to power the Observatory into a Spaceship. The objective of the game is to collect all the stars from different levels and eventually free Peach and defeat Bowser.

Let me tell you a little more info. So when you get to the Observatory you can go into a "room" and select a galaxy. Once you do that, it will show if there are new stars to gain and all the stars you have gained in that galaxy. It also shows if there are trickster comets in orbit. Trickster comets make the level much harder and are difficult to beat. Here are some of them:
Speedy Comet-There is a time limit
Fast-Foe Comet- The enemies are much faster
Cosmic Comet- There is a cosmic Mario and you have to race him to the star.
Also there are different special moves Mario can do(assuming you already know the basic moves):
Spin-Shake the WII remote to spin higher after jumping
High Jump-Press Z and press A after that really fast to jump high
Long Jump-Same as high jump except while moving.
Triple Jump-Jump three times but you have to jump the moment you touch the ground. You'll go higher each time but on the third jump you'll go the highest.
Also there are some different special Mario types that you get when you get that kind of mushroom, star, or flower.
Bee Mario- You can fly around by pressing A and you can also stick onto a honeycomb and walk on clouds or flowers. You lose this if you touch an enemy, take damage, or touch water.

Rainbow Mario- Your invincible and can defeat any enemy by touching. You just have to wait until the Rainbow wears off.

Boo Mario- You turn into a Boo ghost and shake the remoter to turn transparent. Using that, you can pass through bars or certain types of walls. You lose this when you touch an enemy, take damage, or touch light.

Ice Mario- Freeze water just by stepping on it! Just wait until it wears off.

Fire Mario- Shake the WII remote to throw fireballs at enemies. Just wait until it wears off.

Spring Mario- Bounce around with your springy body. You can really high if press A when he hits the ground. You also wall-jump automatically when you hit a wall. You lose this if you touch an enemy, take damage, touch water, or touch a launch star.

So, now, as you can see, Super Mario Galaxy is an AWESOME game!

Note: In the above picture, you see mario spinning with two lumas underneath him, and above him are some of the boss enemies you will have to fight!

Lets watch, TRANSFORMERS!!

This is a movie I really like about robots that can transform into vehicles. It is a little old so Transformers 2 and 3 are already out but I still like the first one better!

Look at these pics from the movie:

Those are some of the autobots, the good guys.

This is the decepticons( the bad guys) leader, Megatron.

I am not going to tell you the plot of the movie, you have to watch it and find out yourself but it is about robots from the planet Cybertron that have fighting for a long time and have come to destroy us.

San Francisco

The #1 sight seeing place of California is SAN FRANCISCO. There is so much things to do. Go see the Ghirardelli Factory or the wonderful Pier 39. After that, enjoy a great dinner at The Rainforest Cafe. It is the perfect place to relax and have fun!!

There is just so many things to do that you couldn't fit it into 1 day.
That's all right, just make it a 2-3 day vacation!! Take a break from stressful work and just enjoy the wonderful things San Francisco offers you!! See you at San Francisco!!!!!

Chess Rules!

Hello, let's play the exciting and interesting game of Chess. This is a game of strategy and focus. It is very fun and very competitive, there are many chess tournaments across the globe.

Many people argue about the origin of chess. Some say it started in India, played by Indian Kings. Others say it was started in China. But one thing we know for certain, it is a great game to play. It is very easy to set up, all you need is a checkers board, or a white and black squared board. Read about the rules of chess below:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rules_of_chess

Great! Now you know how to play, let's have fun and play.
Remember, once you get good at chess, you can compete with others at a chess tournament.
Bye, now!!

Our India Trip

Hello!
Sorry I got very busy over the past few weeks and couldn't write another blog post so I am writing about why I am so busy. We took a two week trip to India!
We got to see all my cousins again because we went to India in the summer also. Usually it is a 3 year range for visits to India but this time it was a half year. The whole purpose was to see my aunts marriage. We were all so happy for her! Her name is pooja masi.
Also we went to Jaipur after her marriage to see what it was like. They had so many shops filled with dresses! My mom had plenty to shop for the wedding at the local market. But it seemed the market was inside the house! Buy the dress, the fitting isn't right so lets go back to the market, this is too short, back to market, this is too long, back to market!!! AHHHH!

There are many palaces we saw.
Wow, we saw the Amber palace, with so many rooms that people get lost in. I decided to stay with the guide. We also saw the mirror palace, thats right, an entire palace made out of mirrors.

Enough about me, lets talk about the marriage, there were so many things to do we had to set the bride and groom up and get them ready. We also have to choose a good ballroom for the wedding. Wow, it took a lot of work but we did it and the ending result was fantastic. We left from 2/11/11-2/26/11 and even though it wasn't a very long time I was reminded of the great country that is right around the corner.

BASKETBALL

Basketball is probably america's #1 sport. It is highly fun and fit and really gets you moving. If you haven't already, you should really try basketball. It will whip you into shape in no time.

Lets get a look at the NBA teams (National Basketball Association)

WOW!! These are most of the teams in the league. Yup theres more.
Now lets go in depth at some of the greatest teams in America.

This is my #1 favorite team!! Lets go Boston Celtics! They are owning the league with Rajon Rondo and his 5  star passes!

Up next we have the Los Angeles Lakers with their all-star player Cobe Bryant. He is probably the best player in the league right now. This team is the rival of the Boston Celtics and are trying to again win the playoffs.

Finally, we have the team, Miami Heat. They were okay last year but are now dominating because of Lebron James. The tables of turned for them. Some talk that the teams are unfair because now Miami has three of the best players in the NBA.

Now lets look at some of the best players in the NBA:

#1            This is, no doubt, the greatest player of all-time. Sadly, he has retired and is now doing the game in a retirement house. Michael Jordan changed the game we call Basketball forever! He is most famous for is time on the Chicago Bulls.

#2              Kobe Bryant has proved himself to be the second best player ever. Through countless layups, steals and long shots, we have noticed his excellence in the game. He is still playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.

#3                      Lebron James used to be on the Cavaliers but has now changed to heat. He has a great percentage and people are asking if he should be in second place instead of third.

So, that's all I have to say about the NBA. Have fun while playing basketball!!!!!

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

SSBB (Super Smash Bros. Brawl) is the most addicting game I have ever played. This is a fighting game for kids  where they can fight with they're favorite players with basic battle moves. The characters are: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Wario, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Link, Zelda, Shiek, Ganandorf, Toon Link, Samus, Zero Suit Samus, Kirby, Meta Knight, King DeDeDe, Olimar, Fox, Falco, Wolf, Captain Falcon, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Pokemon Trainer, Lucario, Ness, Lucas, Marth, Ike, Pit, Ice Climbers, R.O.B., Mr. Game and Watch, Snake, and Sonic.

Wow, that's a lot of characters!! This game is only for the WII, so if you have one then try this game out!

There is a lot of stuff one can do in this game. First there is group mode and solo mode. In group mode, you can Brawl, Speacial Brawl, Rotation Brawl, Tourney, and more! In solo mode, you can do adventure mode which is Subspace Emmisionary, Training, Stadium, Classic, and All Star if you unlock all the characters. (Listed above) Play this game to learn more! Thanks bye!!

Let's go Roller Skating!

Roller Skating is a really fun way to get active and get fit. I do it all the time! First of all, you must understand that everybody gets hurt (even me!) and that nobody is perfect. But you can get really close if you practice, practice, and, guess what, more practice!

Many people get confused between the difference in Roller-Skating and Roller-Blading.Roller Skating is when you're on quad skates, like this.

Roller Blading is when you are skating on Inline Skates, like this.

These are the skates we use in skating, now where do we go if we want to skate?

Awesome!! Now let's go skating! I like skating because it's a way you can hang out with your friends. Instead  of sitting around the TV, go do something healthy, like going Roller- Skating. Also, if you're feeling bored and don't know what to do, go put on your skates and have fun. You can learn how to skate by taking classes or learning by a friend. I'll see you in your new skates soon! Bye!!

Reading, Reading, Reading!

Why should people read? Its great for the eyes and the mind and to take a break from the world. To dive in to a new story and to feel what the author is saying is what makes reading so great. But why should you? Not only does it benefit you for school, but also for yourself. Reading is great for kids-teens because they are more younger and in a book there is no limit to imagination. Some of my favorite books are Holes, The Thief Lord, and Peter Pan series.

Ok, so now I know why it's good to read but how do I choose the right book. First, to find books to read, always go to your local library or bookstore. Think about what interests you (sports, fiction, sci-fi). Once you find what you like, go to where it's located on the shelves and choose a book! It's that easy! Also, most libraries use the Dewey Decimal System to sort their books. To find out what it is, ask your local librarian.

Now that you know why you should read and what you should look for, go have fun reading! Remember, you don't always have to read books, there are all kind of fun magazines kids can read also) HAVE FUN!!

The World of Boy Scouting

What is Boy Scouting? Boy Scouting is a way boys can learn about the world using law, obligation, and duty.
You can learn about anything; there are over 80 merit badges. A merit badge is a badge you get and can put on your sash (piece of clothing) when you excel at a subject. Suppose you want the Hiking merit badge, the instructor will give you a workbook to fill out and learn from and when you're done the instructor will give you the badge at the next court of honor. The Court of Honor is when Scouts and their parents come in full uniform and the scouts get the merit badges they worked for and other awards. Boy Scouts is much more fun than that!
We always get to play games and have fun but with fun also comes work. Every month there are activities that everybody can do. I think Boy Scouts is great for all boys and can help in everything! Making friends, helping the society, learning about the world. So now that you know so much about Boy Scouting, come and join at your local troop! If you're a boy, of course. (If you're a girl, consider girl scouts)
